Welcome to what we hope will be an exciting year in Year 1! You’ll be pleased to know the children have all settled in well and are getting used to our new routines. They are also working very hard and producing some lovely work. This half-term we are enjoying finding out about ourselves and our bodies through our topic ‘All About Me’. We are also looking forward to learning about ‘Our Wonderful World’ next half-term. We will also be finding out where different fruits come from and making some fruit kebabs in DT.
Please remember that your child needs to bring their book bags, a water bottle and a coat to school every day, and will read with an adult twice a week during our Guided Reading sessions. Please continue reading regularly at home and practising the weekly spellings. Your support at home makes a huge difference to your child’s progress.
Our PE lesson will take place on a Thursday morning in the school hall and we also aim to take them outside for a games lesson each week, weather permitting. The children should have a suitable PE kit in school on a Monday morning so it is ready for the week ahead. If your child has their ears pierced, could you please either remove them before school or provide plasters to cover them. We will also aim to do a daily mile run each afternoon. The children will complete this in their uniforms but will have the option to change into their trainers or pumps if they wish.
If your child wishes to purchase toast and milk, please continue to pay for this on a Monday morning for the week ahead. Toast costs £1 per week and Milk costs £1.25 per week. Please send the correct money into school in a sealed envelope.
Due to the developing nature of the Covid19 situation, please be aware that our routines and procedures are subject to change depending on government guidelines. However, please be assured that the health and happiness of your children is our absolute priority, and we really are looking forward to making their time in Year 1 as enjoyable, and as ‘normal’ as we possibly can.
