Welcome to Year 3!
It’s been really lovely seeing all the children back at school.
The children have settled in well and impressed us with their enthusiasm, eagerness to learn and effort.
Our topic this term is ‘Amazing Egyptians’ and we will find they really are amazing! Over the weeks we will find out about how the Ancient Civilisation lived, about different jobs and rituals as well as discovering Egyptian Gods. We hope to plan for a school based Egyptian day where the children will be able to prepare a “body” for mummification… pulling brains out through noses, pulling organs out of the body and wrapping the body in bandages – what’s not to love?! They will also create their own art masterpiece on “papyrus paper”, and other creative activities. Details to follow later. The children will be set a project to find out more about life in Ancient Egyptian times, which will give them (and you!) an opportunity to get creative. More information will follow in a few weeks.
Swimming at QEMS will hopefully start in February and we will send a letter out with further details as soon as we have them.
PE is weekly on a Thursday afternoon, please ensure kits are at school as we get changed in the classroom.
The whole year group begin their violin lessons week commencing 7th September. They will be taught how to hold and play it properly before they will be allowed to bring it home. Once they are bringing it home they will need to ensure it is in school every Tuesday for the lesson – we don’t have any spares. Please encourage your child to practise at home (maybe invest in some good ear plugs for these first few weeks!).
Please continue to help your child continue their learning at home. Everything you do with your child is beneficial to them, but we would hope as a minimum each child is reading with an adult at least 5 times a week, working on the reading challenge, practising their spellings and learning their times tables.
If there is anything you need, please don’t hesitate to contact us via email.
