Year 2 Summer Blog

Posted in Year 2 on May 3, 2022

During this summer term, we are learning about Nurturing Nurses including Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. We will find out about their lives and how they changed the face of modern nursing.

After half term we will be travelling to Mexico with Barnaby Bear. In Science we are learning about the environment, how it is being damaged and what we can do to help combat that, including using less energy and recycling. The second half of the term will look at specific scientists and their inventions. In Literacy we will continue to improve our presentation skills and work on making our writing clear and interesting to the reader, this will be fiction and non-fiction with some work on the nurses discussed earlier. In Numeracy we will continue our daily arithmetic practise and weekly times tables (keep on practising and using TT Rock stars). Alongside this we will be revising some topics we did earlier in the year and making sure we have all the knowledge and skills ready for our SATs coming up this month. In Art we are looking at paper techniques and weaving and then will do a DT project after half term.

Thank you for all of the home support. Those children working hard at home are putting the skills and confidence to good use. Please carry on your reading at home, recording this reading in the home reading diaries and practising your weekly spellings. We aim for all children in Year 2 to have done Bronze, Silver and Gold reading bands and have got to the Bronze times table (mixed 2,5 and 10).

If you have any questions or need anything please email you child’s class teacher.

Mrs Baugh/ Miss Neville
