Adventure awaits in Year 4! We’re diving into an exciting journey of learning and discovery!
We start the year in maths looking at place value and moving on to revise old methods and teach new ones for addition and subtraction. We will use a variety of resources including place value charts and hundred squares.
English will start with some finding out what the expectations are for this year and then using new and practised skills to write sentences and a simple story.
Year four are ready to start our topic of Invaders and Settlers! We will be finding out about the Anglo Saxons, Scots and Vikings. We will learn all about who they were, why they had to invade and did they stay here? In geography we will have a unit on rivers which will look at sources, parts of a river and look at rivers local to us.
In art, we will story telling through drawing and then moving on to exploring pattern. We start with looking at the power of illustrations and trying different ways to create some of our own.
Our exciting Science is all about ‘Animals including Humans’ and we will be finding out about classification including vertebrates and non-vertebrates. We will be moving on to find all about states of matter; solids, liquids and gases.
Weekly spelling lists are sent home every Wednesday and the tests are on the following Wednesday please support your child in learning their words. Times tables tests will be weekly and please encourage children to use TT Rock stars at home as we have a national assessment on tables later on in the year.
PE starts with hockey and your child needs tm come in their kit every Thursday.
On Tuesdays we begin Ukulele lessons with Mr Scott and the instruments will be coming home with chords to work on.
Please support your child in reading at least 5 times a week (checked every Thursday).
We would like all children to complete the Bronze Reading challenge award by the end of term (details to follow).
