We are so excited to share with you all the wonderful learning adventures Year 1 will be going on this term! The children have already made a fantastic start to the year, and we can’t wait to see their confidence and curiosity continue to grow.
English ✏️
This term, we’ll dive into some much-loved stories, starting with Jack and the Beanstalk. Children will explore storytelling, character descriptions and sequencing events. Alongside this, we’ll also enjoy the adventures of Percy the Park Keeper. Our key writing focus will be on using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces to build clear, confident sentences.
Maths 🔢
In maths, we’ll be mastering place value within 10, learning how numbers are built and represented. We’ll then move on to addition and subtraction within 10, using practical resources, games, and problem-solving activities to help us understand these key concepts.
Science 🔬
Our science lessons will be full of discovery as we learn about weather, day and night, and seasonal changes. We’ll also look closely at plants and trees, noticing how they change across the year and exploring what they need to grow.
History 🕰️
In history, we will become time detectives and investigate our local area, focusing on how shops have changed within living memory. We’ll think about what’s different, what’s stayed the same, and how these changes affect our community.
Art & DT 🎨
In art, we’ll experiment with spirals, exploring patterns and shapes in fun, creative ways. In design and technology, we’ll investigate mechanisms and create our very own moving pictures—a wonderful chance to combine imagination with problem-solving skills.
PE ⚽
In PE, Year 1 will be working on their football skills, practising control, teamwork, and learning how to play together.
PSHE 💬
Our focus in PSHE is TEAM—together everyone achieves more! We’ll think about how we can support and encourage one another in school and beyond.
RE 🌍
In RE, we will explore the theme of Caring for others, reflecting on kindness, respect, and how different people show care in their daily lives.
Music 🎵
Our music lessons will be lively and interactive as we learn songs and rhythms all about Ourselves, Numbers and Animals. Children will explore sound, beat and simple composition in playful ways.
