Year 2 Spring Blog

Posted in Year 2 on January 6, 2026

We have lots of exciting learning planned for this term!

In English, we will be reading and writing about the adventures of ‘Traction Man’.  We will also be looking at a book called ‘The Tin Forest’ which links to our Geography work on the rainforest.

In Geography, we are learning about the Amazon Rainforest; in particular, investigating the Yanomami tribe and finding out about where they live, how they survive, and the ways in which their lives are similar and different to ours.

In Science, we will be completing our ‘Materials’ topic and then revisiting our learning on ‘Living Things and their Habitats’.

In Art, we are looking at what it means to be an architect with a view to designing and making our own buildings that represent the architecture seen at the time of The Great Fire of London. In Design Technology, we will be investigating and making wheeled vehicles.

In Maths, we are delving into Multiplication and Division, and Shape, as well as considering different types of measures, such as time, length and height, and mass, capacity and temperature.

Children should continue to read at home to an adult at least 5 times per week. Each parent signature in the diary counts as one step up the reading ladder and counts towards our class reading percentage each week. Children can achieve their silver reading badge by reading a range of genres (please ask your child’s class teacher for further information or support with this).

Please remember to keep practising spellings and times tables each week.

This term, the children will begin learning their times tables. By the end of Year Two, we aim for children to be secure with the x10, x2 and x5 tables.

PE is on a Monday and children may come into school on this day already dressed in their PE kits (weather appropriate clothing and trainers, please).

Thank you for your continued support,

The Year 2 Team
