Year 4 Spring Blog

Posted in Year 4 on January 6, 2026

Welcome back!

This term Year 4 will be starting our fantastic Vikings topic. The children are looking forward to finding out where the Vikings came from, about the invasions and how the Vikings changed Britain. We will discover how their History is linked with the Anglo-Saxons and delve a little deeper into their ‘bloody thirsty’ reputation.

During our literacy lessons, we will be focusing on the well-known poet Michael Rosen and using his performance poem Chocolate as inspiration to write our own. We will be focusing on what makes a good performance, using the expressive Michael Rosen as our inspiration. We will also be using the Tinga Tales (African fables) to inspire us to write our own fables.

In Science we will be investigating Animals, including humans, focusing in particular on the specific role of our different teeth, the digestive system and how food chains are formed.

Children should continue to read at home to an adult at least 5 times per week. Each parent signature in the diary counts as one step up the reading ladder and counts towards our class reading percentage each week. Children will continue read a range of genres to earn their silver reading band which needs to be completed by the Easter holidays. (See the silver reading letter sent home or ask your child’s class teacher for more information).

Please remember to keep practising spellings and times tables each week.  We are working towards all children knowing their times tables to 12×12 reading for the Times table check.

Mr Scott will continue his ukulele teaching sessions on Tuesday’s please keep working on those chords.
