Year 5 Spring Blog

Posted in Year 5 on January 6, 2026

This term, Year 5 are continuing to learn about Ancient Greece and preparing for our assembly.  In Geography, we will be looking developing our map skills, looking at contour lines and how grid references are useful. Our Science lessons will be biology based, learning about Living Things and their Habitats, in which we will compare the life cycles of mammals, amphibians, insects and birds.

Our English lessons will be focusing on the children becoming journalists to write a detailed newspaper report about a key, newsworthy event.  We will also be studying stories from other cultures.  In Maths, we will continue to look at fractions and then move on to decimals and percentages.

We are continuing our ‘Reading a Range’ challenge where children need to read the next line of books to achieve their Silver and Gold reading band. Children will need to achieve this by Easter.
