Progression in Grammar and Punctuation

Posted in Letters on November 11, 2014

Dear Parents,

As you may be aware, the curriculum that we teach in schools has been updated and changed with effect from September 2014. This has huge implications on the expectations for pupils in each year group, particularly with what they are learning in English. Grammar and punctuation expectations have been raised dramatically for pupils in primary education and because of this we have written a new progression of learning which is being presented in the document below.

The document details what each year group will be learning throughout the year and is split into sections:

  • Basic Grammar and Sentence Structure
  • Text Structure
  • Punctuation
  • Terminology used in each year group
  • Glossary of terms

I hope that this document helps you as a parent to understand the high expectations that are being placed on your children throughout their time at primary school and that it is also a useful tool to help with the language of grammar that is being used in school.

If you have any further queries about the teaching of grammar at Greenacres, please do not hesitate to contact me or your child’s class teacher.

Yours sincerely,

Mr P. Pratt
Vice Principal
