This term has been a strange term with Covid-19 meaning we have had to do remote learning and home teaching. So far this term, the children have been learning and exploring through our new topic Fantastic Fairy Tales. Each week we have been focusing on a different fairy tale story which has inspired the activities for the learning areas and adult focus activities in our classrooms. We have looked at the fairy tale stories; The Gingerbread Man, Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Jack and the Beanstalk and The Three Little Pigs. We have had some fantastic home learning sent to us for display boards and we have been very impressed with the work that has been submitted. We appreciate how hard these last few weeks have been, juggling teaching and being a parent and we thank you for all your hard work to keep your children learning.
After the holidays, we will continue with home learning until school can re-open. Our topic for next half term is ‘Our Wonderful world’. We will start with the story of ‘Whatever Next!’ this story is about a bear who travels to the moon in his makeshift rocket. We will use this story to explore a little bit about planets and find out about space. We will learn about creatures ‘Under the Sea’ including their habitats and facts about fish, crustaceans and mammals. We will also be learning about our world through exploring different countries. We will look at Africa, Australia and even Great Britain and will use these countries to explore differences and similarities between our own country and countries around the world.
Finally, we would like to encourage reading at home. We know it is difficult not having books freely available for the children to read but sharing stories with your child is great for building on their vocabulary. Please have a go at using the oxfordowl website- https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/ which provides some free ebooks which the children can read. If you would like to collect books from school please email your class teacher.
Keep up all the fantastic learning and hard work! We encourage you to read with your child as often as possible. Now more than ever parental support at home is invaluable.
