This term Year 6 will be completing geography-based topics on mountains and rivers.
During this topic we will explore how mountains are formed, famous mountaineers and the essential kit needed to climb a mountain. We will be exploring mountains and volcanoes from around the world and using our map skills to locate them. We will also do cross-curricular activities linked with maths, drawing bar graphs of mountain heights and our volcano big maths. We will also study the Japanese artist Hokusai, who is famous for featuring Mount Fuji in his work. Later in the term we will be focusing on rivers and how they are formed and how they change shape.
In D.T. children will be researching, designing and making shelters and in science exploring light such as the colour spectrum, reflection and refraction. Later in the term our topic will be electricity where the children will learn about circuits and undertaking investigations involving different electrical components.
We are also looking forward to our day trip to Beaudesert Activity Centre in October where we will be learning and practising new skills through a variety of outdoor pursuits.
Alongside this there will be a focus on the development of reading, grammar and writing skills as well as maths as we continue to work towards the expected Year 6 standard and beyond.
