In Year 1 we are looking forward to our Pirates and Explorers, and Seaside topics this term. We will be learning all about the golden age of piracy and thinking about the lives of some famous pirates and explorers. We will also learn about seaside holidays in the past and compare them to our holidays now. In Literacy, we will be exploring the picture book The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch by David Armitage and Ronda Armitage. We are hoping to have a Pirate Day and a Beach Day to celebrate our learning later in the term. We will share more information about this in the coming weeks. In Science, we look forward to exploring animals and their habitats. We will also learn about plants and how they grow.
Please continue to read with your child as often as possible and continue practising their weekly spellings with them ready for their spelling test on a Thursday. In June, we have our Year 1 Phonics Screen Check. Please continue encouraging your child to practice using their phonic skills to read the weekly word lists we are sending home.
Also, just a reminder that we have PE on Thursday mornings. Please remember to send your child in to school with a PE kit on this day. If your child has their ears pierced, could you please either remove them before school or provide plasters to cover them with.
We have lots of exciting things to look forward during the children’s last term in Year 1!
