The time has come for the children’s final term in Reception. During this half- term, the children will be learning and exploring through our topic Spring and Growth. Each week we will focus on a new aspect of spring time starting with an introduction of spring through the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Throughout the term we will look at various plants and animals that we will see around us at this time of year. We will also have an exciting opportunity to see our own eggs hatch as we take care of our chicken eggs in an incubator. Once the chicks have hatched we will have some time to care for them before they move onto a new home. We will also learn about other animals that hatch from eggs and have an opportunity to plant a variety of seeds and watch them grow.
After the holidays, we will move onto our final topic, ‘Amazing Animals’. Each week we will learn about a different type of animal including; mini beasts, farm animals, sea creatures, pets, wild and extinct animals. During our topic of pets if your child has any pictures they would like to share of their own pets please feel free to email us with pictures. We will also be taking the children to Dudley Zoo on Tuesday 11th June to learn about primates, mammals, reptiles and birds.
In the final half term your child will have an opportunity to meet their new teachers for some transition time in their new classes in preparation for Year 1.
Finally we encourage you to read with your child as often as possible. The children are very competitive between the classes each week to beat one another’s scores on the reading ladder.
As well as using your phase 2 and 3 flashcards to practise your phonic sounds please also practise your tricky words using the flashcards previously provided.
The children have had a great first academic school year and they are very resilient and have coped well with the challenges of school. I am sure we are going to have a fantastic and busy final term.
