In Year 1, we are looking forward to exploring some exciting themes across our curriculum. In Literacy we will be learning all about the golden age of piracy and thinking about the lives of some famous pirates like Blackbeard. We will also read the picture book The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch by David and Ronda Armitage, which is rich in vocabulary and a text we hope will inspire the children’s writing.
In Science, we will be revisiting our learning on plants and animals. We be labelling the basic parts of the body, naming a variety of common and wild plants and naming animals that are carnivores, omnivores and herbivores.
In History, we will be looking at changes that have happened within our living memory. This includes thinking about what has changed for us in our lives and how toys change as you get older. In Geography, we will be looking at continents and map and field work. This will help us when we go on our trip to Conkers! Something we are really looking forward to this term!
Please continue to read with your child as often as possible and continue practising their weekly spellings with them ready for their spelling tests on Thursday. In June, we have our Year 1 Phonics Screen Check. Please continue encouraging your child to practice using their phonic skills to read the weekly word lists we are sending home.
What an exciting final term we have to look forward to in Year 1!
