We have lots of exciting things happening this term!
In English, we are focusing on using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We are writing for a range of purposes and looking at lots of different genres. We are going to be looking at traditional tales, one well known fairy tale and one alternative. We are writing instructions and setting descriptions. We really want to encourage children’s imaginations!
In Science, we are just starting our ‘materials’ topic. We will be naming a variety of everyday materials, finding out which materials are waterproof and discovering if materials are transparent or opaque.
In Geography, we are learning about hot and cold locations. We will be exploring the equator as well as the North and South Poles, including the temperature and which animals live there.
In History, we are learning about significant individuals, such as Mary Anning and David Attenborough. We will be discussing why they are so significant and the legacy they have left.
In Art, we are learning about sculptures and exploring watercolour. In DT, we are learning about food and nutrition. We will be making rainbow wraps and crudités.
Children should continue to read at home to an adult at least 5 times per week. Each parent signature in the diary counts as one step up the reading ladder and counts towards our class reading percentage each week. Children will continue to read a range of genres to earn their silver reading band which needs to be completed by the Easter holidays (please ask your child’s class teacher for further information or support with this).
Please remember to keep practising spellings each week.
Thank you,
Mrs Sharp and Miss Crompton
