In Year 2, we are looking forward to our Castle topic in History. We are going to be doing a local History study including a trip to Warwick Castle. Linking to castles, we are thinking about dragons in Literacy. We are getting ready to describe and write stories about dragons, generate our own dragon facts and write non chronological reports about the dragons we have created. We are also looking forward to reading, ‘The Owl Who was afraid of the dark’ in our guided reading sessions. Linking to this story, we are looking forward to Becky from Hawkwise bringing her birds of prey. We will get the opportunity to handle a bird and learn lots about them too.
Maths for this term has started with lots of work about fractions. We are finding the fractions of shapes and fractions of amounts. We are continuing to make sure we know our x10, x2, x5 times tables. At home, children can continue to work on their times tables using their login to ttrockstars. Times tables tests are on a Friday.
In Science we are going to be learning about plants and looking at the conditions needed to for seeds to germinate as well as planting bulbs. We will be measuring the growth of our plants.
Please can children carry on reading at home, recording this reading in the home reading diaries and practising weekly spellings (for tests on a Wednesday). We will continue to count how many times your child has read each Thursday. Thanks to parents for all your support in helping your children at home!
