Governance

Landau Forte Charitable Trust has a clear governance structure in place overseen by a Board of Trustees. Each Academy has its own Education Advisory Committee (see below) with the authority to create additional subcommittees for the discharge of their responsibilities.

The membership of the Board of Trustees and Education Advisory Committees is clearly defined in the Trust’s Articles of Association, which are publically available on the Trust’s website.

I am retired. For the final 12 years of my working life I was a lecturer in engineering at a college of further education in Warwickshire, where I was also a staff governor until my retirement.   I had a varied role at college besides my teaching duties: facilitating work-based NVQ training to apprentices and mature students; delivering a GCSE engineering program to “gifted and talented” students under the “WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) program” and lead lecturer in Health and safety in the workplace amongst many other duties.

Before that I was MD of an electronics company that I founded; sales engineer/manager for several global companies. I began my working life at 16 as an apprentice with a world-wide machine tools company and it was with this company that I gained my degree.

My major qualifications include: a degree in engineering and a PGCE with additional school teaching certificate; level 5 institute of management and health and safety (NEBOSH) qualifications; NVQ assessor and supervisor awards.

Although Greenacres Academy is a primary school and my experience is mainly within post 16 education, I nevertheless bring to the local governing body an experienced eye into what the future might hold for our children and a view of what they will need to succeed in life.

I am passionate about mathematics, grammar and science and engineering and keep a watchful eye on the attainment of pupils in those areas.

I am really pleased to be a governor at the school.

I became a governor when my now 17 year old son joined the school. I received a very positive vibe from the school and was interested in helping in any way I could. I was also interested in how the school was run compared to the secondary school I work in. I have been the school librarian at King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls for over 20 years. I love reading and sharing the experience. Handsworth is an academic school with some very big readers. I believe that it is important to foster the love of reading in all children. As the internet grows, reading skills are the biggest self-help tool anyone can have. Not to mention the very important relaxation opportunities that we all need in our busy lives

Originally from Devon, we moved to Amington in 1988.

Both of my children attending Greenacres and my wife Sue worked at the school for over 20 years.

I have been a Governor since the mid 1990’s and have enjoyed playing a small part in the development of the school throughout this time.

I look forward to contributing as best I can to the school’s ongoing improvement plan, as we strive to achieve the highest standards possible.

Appointed February 2022 as Chairman of Landau Forte Academy Greenacres.

I commenced my career in Health and Safety management (NEBOSH qualified) within the pharmaceutical industry primarily focusing on risk assessment within the independent retail pharmacies. An opportunity presented itself to focus on people management and the company offered sponsorship for the post-grad CIPD development programme.

Having completed 7 years within pharmaceuticals, I then moved to defence and electronic  engineering companies and finally on retirement ended my career as a senior board member within a large blue chip company 'HR Director' position.

During my career, I have focused on people (complex employment law cases) and skills development along with strategic and business planning.

One challenge for UK industries is skills shortage of professional engineers and I worked with my yam to closely align with local schools and further education establishments as an opportunity to develop and retain skills for our 'acquisition and organic' growing business. We had huge success engaging strong academic candidates for out under graduate sponsorship and graduate development programmes. Very successful was out apprenticeship scheme- recruiting school leavers who had to fulfil an assessment day which included site visits, a company and individual presentation, a structured and occupational psychometric 'numeracy & verbal' reasoning tests. The apprenticeship provided the company with the skills to continue the business plan growth and the professional engineers enjoyed the mentoring aspects too. The apprentices were paid to gain the necessary skills and were also provided with day release to continue with their academic portfolio. A reciprocal programme as the trainees remained loyal to the business once they had completed their apprenticeship.

As a governor I have considerable transferable knowledge and skills gained over many years and I will endeavour and look forward to ensuring that the educational standards are aligned with Landau Forte values and vision of the future direction of the academy.
