Examinations & Results

National Assessment Points

Your child’s learning and development are closely monitored by a range of teaching and support staff throughout their life at the Academy. We do this to ensure they’re working at the expected standard for their age and that their understanding and attainment of the curriculum is constantly improving.

As your child progresses through their primary education they will be assessed using statutory national assessment points.  Their aim is to test the current attainment standard that your child is working at along with the effectiveness of the teaching your child receives.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Children in state-funded primary and infant schools take a baseline assessment within the first six weeks of entering reception class. This focuses on maths, language, communication and literacy. The results will be used as the starting point to assess how much progress schools are making with their pupils. Results for individual children or schools are not published.  As a school, we report on teacher assessments of children’s development at the end of the early years foundation stage, identifying if a child has a “Good Level of Development”.

Year 1 Phonics Screening

The phonics screening check is taken individually by all children in Year 1 in England, and is usually taken in June. It is designed to give teachers and parents information on how an individual child is progressing in phonics. It will help to identify whether a child needs additional support at this stage so that they do not fall behind in this vital early reading skill.

Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check

The Y4 Multiplication Tables Check is a statutory multiplication test for children to take during the summer term of year 4. The check is an on-screen test, made up of 25 multiplication questions. Children answer three practice questions before beginning the actual multiplication test and have six seconds to answer each question. The test usually takes no longer than five minutes.

The results from the check are used to help schools identify children who would benefit from additional support.

Year 6 SATs (Standard Assessment Tests)

In May, most pupils in year six will take the key stage 2 (KS2) national curriculum tests – commonly known as SATs. The Year 6 SATs papers test reading, grammar, spellings and maths.  They are marked externally and you’ll learn the results of the test before your child leaves the Academy in July.

These tests, alongside teacher assessment of English writing and science, are used to measure school performance and to make sure individual pupils have the support that they need as they move into secondary school.
